Ashwagandha, also known scientifically as Withania Somnifera, is described in Ayurvedic practises as a powerful rejuvenating herb, adding to life and longevity. It has been used for its adaptogenic qualities in India and parts of the Middle East and North Africa for thousands of years. Ashwagandha is a Sanskrit word literally meaning ‘the smell of a horse’ because the herb actually did smell like horse in ancient times! Luckily this isn’t the case today.
